Art Therapy

Art therapy is an embodied form of psychotherapy that regulates the nervous system and can provide access to subconscious material through symbol and metaphor. Art therapy is a body-led process; it bypasses conscious narratives and allows us to see content that we may not have been aware of before. I do not interpret what you create, as meaning is subjective - I assist you in making meaning of what emerges from the creative process.

You do not need to be good at art. The focus is on the process of creating and meaning-making, not on the perceived quality of the creation. We can work with a variety of materials and different expressive modalities (visual arts, movement, sounds, etc.).

Transpersonal Support & Guidance

We are multi-faceted beings interconnected with the entire cosmos. I work with you using creative, contemplative, and shamanic tools to support self-discovery, insight, and integrated transformation. I offer psychedelic integration and support if you are working with sacred plants or plant allies.

This work is for those committed to meeting and embracing all parts of the self while moving toward a more authentic expression of their gifts and purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is art therapy?

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creative expression (like drawing, painting, or sculpting) as a way to explore thoughts, feelings, and experiences. It helps you access deeper parts of yourself, work through emotions, and gain insight within a safe and creative container, which is inherently therapeutic.

What is the difference between art therapy and an art class?

In an art class, the focus is on learning techniques, improving skills, and creating finished pieces. In art therapy, the focus is on the process of creating as a tool for self-exploration, healing, and personal growth. What matters is not the product, but rather what your art reveals about your thoughts, emotions, and inner world and how the process helps you to regulate.

Do I need to be good at art?

No! Art therapy isn’t about creating “good” art or producing something beautiful. The focus is on the process of making, which helps you explore your inner experiences and/or experience a sense of curiosity and play. Your art is a tool for self-discovery, not a measure of skill.

Who is art therapy for?

Art therapy is suitable for all ages. Anyone seeking regular talk therapy or counselling can also benefit from art therapy to:

  • Manage stress & anxiety

  • Improve health and wellbeing

  • Gain deep insights

  • Improve self-expression (including verbal expression) & self-esteem

  • Make sense of mystical experiences or experiences that are hard to describe

Art therapy is especially good for people who struggle to put feelings into words, such as children, trauma survivors, and neurodivergent individuals, or those facing language barriers.

Can art therapy be done online?

Yes! Art therapy can be done online. The process is exactly the same. You will just need a camera and your own materials on hand.
